La musique de Halo Wars est composée par Stephen Rippy, le compositeur de la série des Age of Empires. Rippy avait très à cœur de garder l'univers musical de la série Halo, pour cela il s'est équipé de nouveaux matériels afin d'exprimer sa créativité de la meilleure des façons. Les musiques ont étés composées dans un style alliant la grandeur des bandes originales d'Halo tout en étant aussi axé sur la défaite de l'Humanité. Les thèmes principaux écrits par Martin O'Donnell sur les précédents volets, sont présents dans Halo Wars.
Elle est essentiellement composée par Stephen Rippy, mais aussi par des membres de l'équipe d'Ensemble Studios : David Rippy (son frère) et Kevin McMullan.
La bande originale de Halo Wars est disponible dès le 17 février 2009, elle comprend un CD et un DVD bonus incluant 9 morceaux inédits en 5.1 Surround, parmi lesquels les musiques des deux bandes-annonces du jeu. L'ensemble est accompagné d'un documentaire, type "behind the scene".
