La bande originale est composée par Martin O'Donnell et Michael Salvatori pour Halo 2. Plusieurs interprètes externes y participent, comme : Incubus, Breaking Benjamin, Nile Rodgers et Hoobastank. Elle est divisée en deux volumes vendus séparément.

Cet opus adopte un style dégageant beaucoup plus les combats sur Terre, dernier bastion de l'Humanité. L'utilisation de batteries ainsi que de guitares en est la preuve la plus directe. Halo 2 comprend aussi plus de musiques que dans le jeu précédent. Il est toutefois bon de noter que le style de musique change selon que le joueur incarne le Major ou l'Arbiter, les musiques étant plus « théologiennes » qu'avec l'Humanité, où elles sont plus axées sur le combat.
