Part of the Skirmisher contingent used by the Covenant is specifically designed to form specialized combat squads and infantry hunter-killer units - these are most often referred to as Skirmisher Commandos. Armed and armored similarly to the lower-ranked Murmillones, Commandos operate in discrete close knit groups with extremely specific mission parameters. They are recognizable on the battlefield as much for their olive-colored plating as for their incredibly proficient unit cohesion. The very first Skirmisher Commandos were culled from the sectarian societies in the asteroids near Chu'ot, which were sustained by gray market trade and had developed free from governments that dominated Eayn proper. In order to fight off the incessant looting and pirating common to the asteroids, the militia in these factions operated in an extremely ruthless and precise fashion. Ironically, when the Covenant first arrived in the Y' Deio system, these outworld groups joined forces with the very pirates they had battled for decades in an attempt to deny off the new intruders to their star system.
